Aged Tyres

A number of vehicle manufacturers are now advising against the use of tyres that are more than six years old due to the effects of ageing.

Tyre showing it was manufactured in the 48th week of 2004Unfortunately there is no hard and fast rule to determining the age at which a tyre should be removed from service. You can check the age of your tyres by looking at the Tyre Identification Number (pictured). The last four digits indicate the week and year the tyre was manufactured e.g. this tyre was manufactured in the 48th week of 2004.

Motorists in doubt are advised to check with us at one of our two locations. We will be able to conduct a thorough visual inspection of the tyre as well as investigating its history and will be able to advise on the need to replace the tyre.
